Dear All,

I hope you are well and enjoying these lovely autumn days we are having. I have been reflecting on the contrast between the peace in the weather and the lack of peace in our news. There is much fear about at the moment with world events and our own country's uncertain future.

Last Sunday I preached on 'prayerful living'. In James' letter he says:  'Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says'. So how do we as those who have received the good news of Jesus live prayerfully? One obvious answer is to pray about all that we hear daily, to bring the needs of the world and our own needs to our God, who loves us and answers prayer. I think we also have to remember we are citizens of God's kingdom, not yet fully realised on earth, but with the power to build that kingdom through our words and actions. Jesus said, 'do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.' (John 14:1)

I wonder whether this month we try to do what Jesus teaches us, not to fear but to trust in God and his ultimate plan for the world whilst caring for and bringing peace to those around us.

HolidayI am on holiday from Saturday 21st October and will be back to work on Saturday 28th October.  Please contact Andy (Churchwarden) 07814 993234 or Ian (Rector) 872097 whilst I am away.

Service Review/Church visiting: Thank you to everyone for their completion of the service review forms. Jane, Andy and I have really enjoyed the opportunity to talk with people after the service and hear everyone's views. Our PCC will be considering the service reviews on an away morning in later the year.

As part of our service review, we would like to ask everyone in our congregation to visit another church between now and Christmas. Often when we visit somewhere else we get good ideas and can come back and share them. Cassa is on holiday on the 22nd Oct and will be visiting two local churches to get ideas. Please consider doing the same thing and bringing any good ideas or reflections back.

Advent CourseI am offering a four-session Advent course called ‘What are you waiting for?’ written by the Revd Lucy Winkett for York Courses. The course will/could run Wednesdays: 29th Nov, 6th Dec, 13th Dec and 20th Dec 9.15-10.30am. If you can’t do Wednesdays or need an evening session please let me know as we can always move things around or add an extra session. Please speak to me to book a place or for more information.

Thank you Party: On Sunday 29th October at 2pm Holy Trinity will be hosting a party for Steve and Sandy who have run our post office and newsagents for many years. This is an opportunity to thank them and to celebrate all they have done for the community. Please contact me if you are able to help.

May God bless you in your work and rest this month and protect you from fear so that you may trust in Him.
